Weight Loss Tips After Your Holidays

A holiday is a time when most of us let our hair down, eat and drink what we want without giving much thought to our weight or diet. Then we get back from our holiday and realise that we have put on a few pounds? Back on another diet yet again!
Don’t worry here are a few simple way to help you shed those unwanted pounds.
1. To Stop Cravings: When trying to stick to your diet you will not doubt at some point come across hunger cravings. Next time you do count to 10. Did you know that studies suggest the average hunger craving only lasts about 10 minutes. So when a hunger craving hits tackle something on your to do list and distract yourself from hunger cravings.
2. Salsa instead of Mayo: Instead of putting mayonnaise on top of your food, try salsa instead. Salsa provides plenty of flavour and is low in fat. If you are a tuna fan then mix some salsa with a bit of low fat yoghurt and add it to your salad. Salsa is also great on chicken or fish.
3. Water!: Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, so next time you feel like eating get hold of a glass of water first. Drinking water can also help you to feel full. Just sipping water before you sit down for a meal, and continual sipping of the water during the meal will add volume and weight to your meal making you feel full and less likely to eat a massive amount as you won’t want to.
4 Alcohol: Here is the obvious one. We all know that alcohol equals calories. A beer(12oz) contains 150 calories, glass(3.5oz) of wine 85 calories, don’t even look at the calorie content of a creamy cocktail. It’s not rocket science if you want to lose weight then you have to cut down or even better cut out alcohol.
5 Don’t Stop Yourself From Going Out: Have a plan if you get invited to a party. Take something with you like a plate full of fresh vegetables and a low fat dip or a bowl of fresh fruit, you are able to eat at a party without destroying your diet.
You are able to get back in shape and feel at your best just like you did at the beginning of your holiday. So what is stopping you? Give it a go and get to your ideal weight and shape. There are many diets, diet plans and weight loss supplements available to help you get back to the shape you want. Choose Organic For Your Green Lifestyle

More and more people are electing to avoid the risk of chemical contamination of their bodies, families and homes. Fortunately, solutions for addressing change exist and are within easy access. Choosing eco-friendly alternatives allows us to live a natural, green lifestyle.
The benefits organic bedding, eating organic foods and wearing organic clothing are numerous. Organic Foods The Organic Food Association tells us: “It’s common sense; organic food is good food. Good to eat, good for the environment, good for the small-scale farmers and farm workers who produce it.”
Organic farming is all about health and wellness. In order to assure optimum health and resistance against diseases, the natural balance in our own bodies and in the environment must be maintained. The use of artificial chemical pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, fertilizers, genetic engineering and drugs interfere with this delicate balance; with unknown and often harmful consequences! This is why organic farming impacts on much more than what can be tasted or seen.
Over the last fifty years, commercial farmers have, of necessity, continued to increase the amount of these hazardous applications. Cereal crops are sprayed as many as 8 times during the growing season. Many fruit and vegetable harvests have been sprayed 10 - 15 times. After harvesting the spraying process is repeated to inhibit grow of bacteria during storage and transport. Excessive spraying of fruit and vegetable crops destroys natural bacteria, leaving the plants increasingly vulnerable to attack from unwelcome pests or disease. More over insecticides and fungicides are then required to fight off infestation and decay. However, these pests rather quickly become immune to the chemicals applied and their population increases rapidly. More powerful and increasingly toxic chemicals are then required.
Organic certification is the consumer’s assurance that products have met stringent standards and have been grown and handled according to strict procedures without contamination from carcinogenic pesticides, fertilizers, human waste or sewage sludge and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or artificial food additives. Organic or non-organic, which would you rather put in your body? We are what we eat. When our diet is built upon natural organic choices we are providing our bodies optimum food, produced in optimum conditions. Organically raised vegetables and fruit provide more minerals and nutrients than commercially grown produce and are more intensely endowed with color, scent and flavor; they just taste better!
Organic meats are produced from animals that have been treated humanely and raised on certified organic pastures and feeds. Organic meat is the only meat product that guarantees that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have not been used at any stage of growth production.
Organics And The Environment
The USDA estimates that within the next ten years half of all America’s farm products will come from only 1% of the farms. The EPA also states that commercial agriculture is accountable for 70% of the pollution in our country’s rivers and streams. Small-scale organic farmers finance innovative and far reaching research designed to minimize agriculture’s impact on the environment. They preserve bio-diversity by planting heirloom varieties of plants and harvesting seeds for future crops. The loss of a large variety of species is one of the worlds most pressing environmental concerns. The good news is that many organic farmers and gardeners have been gathering, preserving seeds and growing unusual and unique varieties for decades.
Organic farming methods naturally enrich the soil with manure and compost. Well balanced soils product healthy, strong plants, nourishing for both people and animals. Organic agriculture can be a lifeline for small farms as it offers an alternative market where sellers can command fair and equatable prices for crops. Organic farming may be one of the last ways to assure the survival of both our ecosystems and our rural farming communities .
Conventional farming endangers farm workers and their families. Scientific research confirms pesticide-related health problems which include cancer, birth defects, memory loss, paralysis and death. Unsecured storage, improper application methods and unsafe handling and transportation procedures are not at all uncommon and often lead to tragic mishaps. As pests develop resistance, farmers desperate to maintain or increase crop yields often resort to more and more applications of expensive and stronger chemical products. Facing rising costs, depleted fields and contaminated ground water, many small farmers have been forced to abandon their livelihood.
Organic farming, on the other hand, is not only safer and healthier for farmers, but also promotes just compensation in the supply chain. Organic farming provides an economically viable and socially acceptable alternative to large-scale farming and the accompanying dependence on government crop subsidies. Support of the small farmer supports America’s economy.
Organic production dramatically reduces health risks. Many EPA-approved pesticides were registered and approved prior to extensive research linking these noxious chemicals to cancer and other significant health problems. Crop dusting has often resulted in drifts of toxic pesticides from fields to residential areas.
Organic agriculture is one way to prevent more of these chemicals from contaminating the earth that sustains us. An increasing body of research indicates that pesticides and other contaminants are considerably more prevalent in the foods we eat, in our bodies and in the environment than we previously believed.
By choosing organic products we lessen this toxic burden. Organic farmers regularly rotate crops and plant cover crops to control weeds, nutrient leaching and erosion. Soil is the foundation of the food chain. The focus of organic farming is to use methods that build and maintain healthy and sustainable soils.
Organic Skin Care And Personal Products
Skin care and cosmetics are the least regulated products under the US Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Whether it is soap, moisturizers or deodorants, skin care products are an essential part of daily life. But do we really understand what these products actually contain and what we are forcing our skin to absorb?
Have you ever suffered from stinging, burning or itchy skin? Chances are that your skin absorbed irritants and toxins from your skin care products. The skin absorbs ingredients in all the personal care products that come in contact with our skin. Consider nicotine or HRT patches. They rely solely on skin absorption.
As mothers we are always concerned for the well being of our children. We tenderly comfort and bathe them with a wide range of products. These include soaps, shampoos, creams and lotions, many of which are used on baby’s tender skin several times a day. The skin is the largest organ of the body and the delicate skin of an infant can be up to 100 times more sensitive and receptive to toxic chemicals and irritating ingredients that the skin of an adult.
Without even realizing, parents put their babies at risk daily. Did you know that applying baby powder to your baby’s skin may pose a cancer risk later in life? The principle ingredient in many baby powders is talc, which several medical studies have confirmed as a known carcinogenic.
Lanolin is a main ingredient in many personal care products and when processed from organically raised sheep, is a wonderful healing balm. The danger lies in non-organic lanolin that has been processed from sheep that were dipped or sprayed for lice with chemical pesticides that are contaminated with carcinogenic ingredients such as DDT, dieldrin or lindane. The residue of these toxin remains in the processed lanolin and can cause severe reactions and long term health hazards.
Chemical free and natural, organic products offer earth friendly options that eliminate these dangers. You can avoid these and similar safely concerns by using only certified organic products formulated from natural sources such as plants, fruits, vegetables and flowers. These products to do not contain synthetic chemicals such as lauryl sulphate, phthales, parabens, artificial fragrances or dyes.
Organic Textiles
By the end of 2008, the sale of organic textiles worldwide is expected to exceed $3 billion indicating that global demand for organic textiles is increasing in response to consumer demand. Organic production takes more time, requires more skills and knowledge, and at least for now, costs somewhat more. But it is worth it as organic materials do not contain any hidden costs to the environment.
Choose Earth Friendly Products! Choose Organic!
The consumption and use of green technologies is all about the challenges and choices we face if we are to enjoy a high quality of life within the limited resources of our world. If we become passionate about sustainability, together we can make the planet a cleaner and healthier place for all of us to live.
Do you wish to embrace a lifestyle that protects our children’s future? Do you want to to live in the greenest environment possible with a conscience and respect and appreciation for the earth? The quality of life for future generations is dependent on the choices we make today!
Surveys reflect that about a fourth of the US adult population has a profound sense of environmental enlightenment and social responsibility. Almost half of us will buy organic and make earth friendly choices in many aspects of our daily living. Consumer education and awareness is a powerful force for change.
The consumption of organically grown products has increase by 20 per cent in the last year alone. Organic alternatives are readily available and the trend is escalating. Sustainability should be within everyone’s reach. Our choices matter and have a long term global impact. Let’s Choose wisely!

How America Was Sold on the False Health Promises of Soy

Soy has become so popular because of the industry advertising. It started me off as a believer! There was considerable research done in 1966 about the harmful substances within the soybeans. And now, it’s claimed to be the “miracle” food. The truth is that it’s a multi-billion dollar business!
Production of soybeans in the U.S. is 40 times more now than it was starting in the 20th century. First it’s made for animal feed and then manufactured into soy oil, vegetable oil, margarine, and shortening.
Why has the soy industry concentrated on finding alternative uses and new markets for soybeans? Because it’s cheap and very profitable. It’s disguised in everything from hamburgers, hot dogs, baby formula, flour, and much more. It’s often marketed as low-fat, dairy free, or as a high protein meat substitute for vegetarians. The soy derivatives you need to look for are textured vegetable protein (TVP), partially hydrogenated soybean, soy protein isolate (SPI) hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP).
One of the dangerous substances in the soybean is phytic acid, also called phytates. These acids block the body of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron and especially zinc. But, you never hear about that.
Read the labels very carefully – and you will be amazed at the soy contents in snack foods, fast foods, and pre-packaged frozen meals. It’s also in canned tuna! Why you need soy in tuna is a mystery to me.
Soy Serves Up Healthy Benefits will get your attention. They say soy foods are a source of high-quality protein that provides health benefits that may help to prevent or treat certain chronic diseases. This is definitely not so for someone with a severe allergy to soy – like me. I bring this to your attention because even though you may not be allergic to soy, it makes sense to me to look for healthier alternatives.
They claim soy foods contain less calories and fat grams making weight loss easier, and can reverse child obesity because soy foods provide critical vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein – the opposite is true. Kid friendly foods like soymilk, frozen pizza, taco-style meant and chicken-style nuggets. Really? This doesn’t sound like a healthy diet to me.
They claim that because they are filled with bone-building and heart-healthy soy protein, they reduce overall calories and fat grams. If this is true, how come I gained weight with my active lifestyle? And what about women who are in their forties that start gaining weight? I believe it’s because of the all the soy products that they are consuming. And, they could possibly be developing thyroid disease and not know it. Don’t believe what you hear about women going through menopause. It didn’t reduce my “hot flashes”, lower my cholesterol, decrease my risk for heart disease, or osteoporosis. What soy did do was slowly but surely, killing me! And, I thought I was following a healthy diet with all the soy I consumed.
When it comes to fad diets they claim soy foods help promote healthier eating habits with low carb diets. They say many soy foods are naturally low in fat and saturated fat, while being high in heart-healthy protein. The example they use is a soy veggie burger provides 12 grams of soy protein with 5 grams of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat and just 3 grams of net carbs. That soy veggie burger is what landed me in the hospital…my body said “enough all already!” It took four days in the intensive care unit for me to get the “wake-up” call.

The Wonders of Epsom Salt

Epsom salts are named for the mineral rich waters of Epsom, England, where they were known at least as far back as Shakespeare’s day. The benefits of phytotherapy for modern people

It was recently estimated that about 80% of the world’s population regularly uses herbal remedies and natural treatments for various ailments and health conditions. Growing public dissatisfaction with modern health care approaches and numerous disadvantages of using pharmaceuticals (including their cost, numerous unwanted effects and over-the-counter availability) produced a new wave of interest to traditional medicine and herbal remedies.
A great number of herbs and plants have strong therapeutic effects, and the humanity has not discovered the majority of those yet. Natural materials we can receive from medicinal plants contain a great deal of various chemical elements and components, which can produce powerful curative effects when they work as a composition. However, the effectiveness of herbal materials depends on some factors, such as climate, soil quality and other environmental aspects of the locality where the herb was growing, as well as the factors connected with harvesting and processing.
Herbal medicine is capable of curing a huge number of diseases and health concerns, starting from arthritis and eczema and ending with menopausal symptoms and chronic fatigue. At that, modern herbalists have a tendency to using whole plant extracts and benefit from therapeutic effects of the formulas, created by our Mother Nature rather than use extracts. However, modern herbal supplements and pills contain a great number of herbal extracts and concentrates, which are biologically derived and considered to be effective when working together. Such herbal medicines act slower in comparison with pharmaceuticals, but they usually have much better effects in long-term perspective.
There is a popular idea that herbal remedies are 100% safe because they are all natural. However, it is not true, and the people who rely on herbal remedies (especially modern natural supplements and pills with complicated formulas and dozens of ingredients) should not neglect possible side effects. Herbal remedies are also medicines, and chemical components of theirs can cause allergies, digestion problems or other negative reactions in the body. That is why it is absolutely essential to avoid self-healing and use modern herbal remedies under control of experienced herbalists or other competent medical practitioners.
You can find a great variety of herbal remedies and treatments in our pharmacies and health care shops. Essential oils used for aromatherapy and herbal teas are, probably, the most popular and safest among them. Liquid extracts, tinctures and syrups are used for treating the symptoms of such ailments as colds, headaches, increase heart rate and anxiety, depression and many others. Also, there are a lot of natural supplements, capsules, pills and tablets, which contain only naturally extracted elements and are designed for combating almost all known health problems of our times.

Should You Write Your Own Wedding Vows?

The big day is almost here! Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. As you start to plan the ceremony for you all important day, why not consider writing your own wedding vows? In this world of cookie cutter ceremonies, speeches, and receptions, your own custom, personally written vows can give your wedding unique meaning that goes beyond the overused cliches found in most wedding vows. Shouldn’t your wedding be about what makes you special as a couple?
In this modern day, almost anything goes as far as wedding vow content. Sources for wedding vow content can come from old love letters or emails from your spouse, memories of special occasions you’ve shared together, recalling how and when you first met, the little things you love about one another, obstacles you’ve overcome to become a couple, and any other event that’s had significance to you as a pair. You can also incorporate lines from poetry, favorite songs, the Bible, great philosophical thoughts, lines from old movies, and other sources that have special meaning to you and your future spouse.
Believe it or not, it’s also okay to add a little humor to your vows. Weddings are meant to be a celebration of joy and humor may be a way to express your joy as a couple. At one of the most unique and memorable weddings I attended, the couple told a funny story about the way they met as a part of their vows. Their story certainly brought a smile to my face as well as most of the guests and lightened the mood of what what could have been a somber ceremony. This effect carried over into the after wedding festivities making it one of the nicest weddings I can remember attending. If you’re a lighthearted, funny couple, why try to hide it on your wedding day?
It’s okay to be creative and think out of the box when writing your vows. Allow yourself to let the ideas flow and you’ll come up with up with the special wedding words that you’ll remember for a lifetime. After all, it’s your wedding and your chance to tell the world how you feel about your beloved. All the best to you as a future couple!

The Art of Wearing Big Earrings

For the longest time, we were told that big earrings were gaudy, out of style, out dated and over rated among other things. The thought over wearing hoops as big as tennis balls was just not something that we even thought of. Well ladies, that trend has turned and bigger is considered better in the jewelry world these days.
Working in the fashion world, I always try to keep up with the latest list of dos and don’ts and to stay a step ahead in my wardrobe and accessories. About a year or so ago, I began to notice that trend in jewelry to shift from small and dainty to big and bold. I began to shift with it. My silver bracelets were bigger, my rings were wide enough at the top for two fingers and my necklaces practically covered my whole neck. For some reason it took me awhile to turn myself over to big earrings.
May big earrings make me think of the 80s, and who wants to go back to the days of 80s fashion faux pas? So, I started slowly with big silver hoops. Once I put them on I wore them every day for about two weeks. If you look at all the stars, what do you see? Big earrings, specifically big hoops. JLo, Beyonce, Jessica Simpson and Lindsay Lohan are just a few of the many people who have jumped on the big earring band wagon and made it what it has become today.
I get questions from many people regarding what kind of style looks best with big earrings. I have one friend who feels she can’t wear them because she has short hair and one who doesn’t wear them because she has long hair. The beauty of big earrings is that anybody can wear them. Short hair, long hair, petite women and curvy gals all look good with big earrings. They are one size fits all. Short hair shows off the earrings and long hair allows you to catch a glimpse of them. Those of you with long hair should appreciate big earrings because if you wear small earrings such as small diamond studs or tiny hoops, nobody can see them.
If you still haven’t bought a pair of big earrings, the time has come. All you have to have is a little attitude, because a little goes a long way. Big earrings are the one size fits all piece of jewelry that we all most embrace in today’s fashion world.

Keeping in touch with beauty and fashion during your wedding trip

If you’re getting married overseas, there are a few extra considerations when it comes to looking good. It’s time to start planning your ‘princess for the day’ look!
Your wedding attireThere are two main considerations when planning your outfit for a wedding abroad. You need to find something that you will be comfortable wearing, especially if you’re getting married in the sunshine, and you also need to choose something that you can transport relatively easily.
If the temperature on your wedding day is likely to be very cool, a ‘floaty’ beach dress probably isn’t the perfect choice. Look for something that will suit the environment - more of a traditional ball gown-style wedding gown, for example. Equally, consider accessories such as shoes. Pretty beach sandals aren’t the thing for walking around the castle grounds. Instead consider a high heel shoe.
What you wear for your wedding is entirely up to you and there are no real dress rules if you are marrying in the grounds of your hotel. However, if you have arranged for a religious service in a chapel or church you will most likely be expected to respect local custom and cover your head and shoulders. Also in some Eastern countries, such as Thailand there is a specific dress code. Your wedding coordinator or the relevant embassy will advise you.
Transporting and caring for your outfitsWhen you choose your perfect dress, speak to the designer or store about how best to transport it. It may pack well with plenty of tissue paper, or could be better kept in a dress bag.
Check with your airline for advice on transporting your wedding outfits. Some recommend that they should be boxed or packed into separate suitcases. They will then be placed into the hold. Others suggest that you use suit carriers and, space permitting, they will be hung in the cabin of the aircraft. Outfits can always be carried as hand luggage but this will restrict you to keeping the rest of your hand luggage to a minimum.
As soon as you arrive at your hotel, unpack your wedding outfits and hang them up. A warm and humid tropical climate should allow creases to fall out naturally. However, your hotel or your wedding coordinator can normally arrange for your outfits to be steamed if necessary. Alternatively, hang clothes in a steam-filled bathroom which will help the creases drop out.
Hair and beautyHair and beauty treatments can be arranged when you arrive at your hotel, or you might even decide to book things before you arrive. If your hotel does not have these facilities, ask whether there is somewhere you can visit nearby. For total peace of mind, practice styling your own hair and make-up before setting off.
You’re likely to want to have a healthy tan on your wedding day, but basking in the sun before the wedding isn’t a good idea. As well as damaging your skin, you run the risk of looking more like a lobster than a sun-kissed bride. Pace you’re sunbathing on the run-up to your wedding or help nature along with a good quality fake tan. If you’re doing your own fake tan, be sure to practice well in advance.Did you find this article useful?

Top Organizing Suggestions for Your Philadelphia Wedding

Taking on some major Philadelphia wedding planning? Well, read on for five essential tips that will give you more breathing room and help make your Philadelphia wedding a true success.
Hit the Bridal Shows
If you’re short for time or big on efficiency, hitting up a local bridal show is a great way to meet and evaluate hundreds of Philadelphia wedding companies, venues, photographers, DJ’s and more in one day and under one roof.
]The biggest company currently hosting bridal shows in Philadelphia is Bridal Event (bridalevent.com). They host events all over Pennsylvania and New Jersey and are known for large-scale bridal shows with hundreds of vendors. You can check their website for upcoming shows in the Philadelphia area.
Plan for Your Photographer
Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love, and wedding photo opportunities are everywhere. Whether you want to take your shots at the infamous LOVE statue or beautiful city hall, Philadelphia is a city that’s brimming with history, tradition and romantic settings. However, remember to arrange your photo permits before you start shooting.
For example, to take pictures at the Longwood Gardens you need to fill out a permission slip, pay admission for each member of your wedding party and adhere to a strict no tripods and no lights rule. Other areas in the city, like Fairmount Park, also require permits, so plan ahead.
Get In Touch Online
Sometimes Philadelphia wedding planning can be overwhelming, so why not blow off some steam venting with other brides or doing your planning and shopping online. You can try a national site like One Wed (onewed.com) or something local such as PA Brides (pabrides.com) to find vendors or just inspiration.
Websites that offer forums or message boards are a great way to get referrals from other brides, bounce ideas around and find inspiration from these same people in the Philadelphia area.
Invest in a Philadelphia Wedding Planner
Philadelphia is a city brimming with wedding planners, all itching to help you do everything from plan your entire event to simply offer an hour of consulting services helping you sort out important details. Again, a wedding planner can be hired for an hour, a day or even for a few months. Popular local companies are the Wedding Factor and the Queen of Hearts Wedding Consulting Company.
Check Out Philadelphia Wedding Magazine
Though only a quarterly publication, Philadelphia Wedding magazine is a great local resource that not only includes pertinent local articles but also advertisements for local vendors and service providers.
So, rather than waste your time on national publications that don’t offer the local information you need, use this local publication as your Philadelphia wedding planning guidebook.
